Folegandros is ideal for couples looking for a secluded getaway, families seeking a worry-less environment suitable for their children or a group of friends who want to enjoy the impulsiveness and the care-free aura that this magnificent island transpires. Indulge yourselves and taste the islands’ traditional cuisine and the local spirits (“rakomelo” is a definite yes for those summer nights) or visit one of the islands numerous beaches. Most of them are accessible by car or bus, for others you’ll need to board a small boat. Action-lovers will also find that there is a Dive Centre on the island.

We suggest taking a stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets of Chora, the island’s main village, where you can feel the rich history of the area almost transporting you back in time. Take a moment to admire the whitewashed houses, adorned with vibrant bougainvillaea flowers that add yet another layer of charm to the already picturesque scenery. Alternatively, you can explore the mediaeval Kastro, a fortified neighbourhood perched on a hilltop, offering panoramic views of the island and the endless blue of the Aegean Sea. Lose yourself in the labyrinthine alleyways, discovering hidden chapels, quaint shops, and inviting tavernas where you can savour local delicacies.

Whether you seek tranquillity, natural beauty, or an immersive cultural experience, Folegandros invites you to create cherished memories with your loved ones and escape to a place where time seemingly stands still. Embark on a journey of exploration, where the genuine spirit of the island, its inhabitants, and its idyllic landscapes will captivate your heart and leave you yearning for more.

Folegandros invites you to immerse yourself in its timeless allure, where every corner unveils a story waiting to be discovered.

There are 4 villages in Folegandros:

Hora is the main village and it is where Anemomilos Boutique Hotel is located. Recently CNN listed Hora as one of the 7 most beautiful villages of the entire Europe! Τhe most photographed church of Folegandros, the church of Panaghia, rests on the top of the Hora hill, a short walk from Anemomilos. It is said that the invaluable icon of the Virgin Mary (Panaghia) which was once stolen by pirates, managed to return to the island through way of the sea after the boat carrying it had sunk. The old settlement of Kastro is as inviting as it looks in all these trademark pictures of Folegandros and features whitewashed houses that haven’t stopped being inhabited ever since their establishment in the medieval times. At nights, the cobblestone streets host the vibrant hum of the people visiting the numerous restaurants and bars.

Ano Meria

Ano Meria is a perfect place for a day-visit visit if you’re looking for a more rural experience. It is home to the Folegandros Folk Museum, which is basically a beautiful farmhouse (“themonia”) with walls made of stone and mud, without the use of plaster, so as not to be discerned by the pirates in the past. Exhibits include the remains of an olive press, a primitive wine press, daily life utensils, local costumes, an old loom and many more items which are interesting to see and make the visit to the museum a wonderful experience.

Karavostassis is the port of Folegandros and the departure point of the little boat taking you to Katergo beach, considered by many the most beautiful of the entire island.

Karavostassis welcomes visitors with its vibrant energy and stunning coastal scenery, and as you arrive you’ll be greeted by the picturesque harbour lined with colourful fishing boats and charming waterfront tavernas.

Angali started out as an little fishing village and is now fraught with restaurants and cafes. Its name literally means “embrace” and is reference to the massive rocks which “hug” the crystal waters. Angali is accessible by car and from there you can catch the various boats taking you to the secluded beaches of Aghios Nikolaos and Livadaki.
